Last updated: September 1, 2026

FilmBustr is committed to your privacy. This Privacy Policy is a clear explanation of how we collect, use, disclose, transfer, and store your information.

FilmBustr (“FilmBustr,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a casting and networking platform for student and early-career actors, filmmakers, and creators. FilmBustr is currently operated as a sole proprietorship by Diego Ravelo in California, United States.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using FilmBustr (the “Service”), you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

FilmBustr is intended only for users who are 18 years of age or older. See the Age Requirement section below.

Information We Collect

Information you give us:

  • Account information: your email address and password (passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider, so we never see them).
  • Profile information:your name, profile photo or headshot, the school you select, your general location (such as city or region), your biography, the roles you’re interested in (acting, directing, producing, crew, and so on), your skills and experience, credits, and any demo reels, self-tapes, or other media you upload.
  • Casting activity: casting calls you post, applications you submit (including any self-tapes or materials attached to them), and casting decisions.
  • Communications: messages you send to other users through the Service, and messages you send to us (such as support requests or reports).

Information we collect automatically:

  • Usage and device data: basic information about how you use the Service, such as pages viewed, features used, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser type, and device information. We collect this through our analytics provider (PostHog) and standard server logs.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them.

A note on your school: the school shown on your profile is self-selected and not verified by FilmBustr. We do not currently confirm that you attend the school you choose.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and profile;
  • Operate the core casting experience, letting you build a profile, find and post casting calls, apply to roles, review applicants, and record completed credits;
  • Enable communication and networking between users;
  • Send you Service-related emails (such as account confirmation, password resets, application updates, and important notices) through our email provider (Resend);
  • Keep the Service safe by detecting, investigating, and acting on fraud, abuse, harassment, safety reports, and violations of our Terms of Service;
  • Understand and improve how the Service is used; and
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not charge for application visibility or use payment to determine who gets seen or cast.

How We Share Your Information

With other users. Your profile (name, photo, school, general location, bio, roles, skills, credits, and any media you post) is visible to other FilmBustr users so the casting and networking features can work. When you apply to a casting call, the person who posted it can see your application and the materials you attach. Do not post anything you are not comfortable sharing with the FilmBustr community.

With service providers (“subprocessors”). We share information with trusted third parties that help us run the Service, only as needed to provide it:

  • Supabase: database, authentication, and file storage (hosts your account data, profile data, and uploaded media).
  • Vercel: application hosting.
  • Resend: transactional email delivery.
  • PostHog: product analytics.

These providers are permitted to use your information only to provide services to us.

For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms of Service; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FilmBustr, our users, or the public, including to respond to a safety concern or emergency.

In a business transfer. If FilmBustr is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

Data Retention

  • While your account is active, we keep your information so you can use the Service.
  • After you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we need to keep certain information longer to comply with the law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
  • Self-tapes and audition media you attach to an application are kept while the related casting call is open and are deleted within 30 to 60 days after the call closes or the role is cast, unless you have saved that media to your own profile.
  • Backups: residual copies of deleted data may remain in our routine backups for a limited period (approximately 30 days) before being overwritten.

Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • Access and update most of your information directly in your profile settings;
  • Delete your account, which starts the deletion process described above;
  • Opt out of non-essential emails using the unsubscribe link (we will still send essential account and security messages).

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, such as the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data. California residents: you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@filmbustr.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, and we rely on established providers (Supabase, Vercel) for secure infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.

Age Requirement

FilmBustr is intended only for users who are 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it. If you believe someone under 18 is using FilmBustr, please contact us at contact@filmbustr.com.

Third-Party Links and Content

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (for example, an external demo reel or a filmmaker’s site). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. Review their privacy policies before providing them information.

International Users

FilmBustr is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information will be processed and stored in the United States, which may have different data-protection rules than your country.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (such as an email or an in-app notice). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
